One of our favorite Friday afternoon things to do is stop for a leisurely lunch. Today we stopped in at one of our favorites, the Golden Valley Brewery Restaurant in Beaverton. We arrived after the normal lunch crowd, around 1 pm.
I tried something new from the menu, the G.V. Ham & Turkey Club. It is described as a triple decker layered with honey-cured ham, honey-mesquite turkey breast, peppered bacon, havarti and cheddar cheeses, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on toasted egg bread. I love a good club sandwich.
Club sandwiches are cut into quarters and then arranged on the plate and in this case two of the quarters are on each side of the plate. Not to be picky, but I’m going to be anyway — As you can see, the sandwich that appeared is actually a double decker sandwich and not a triple decker as listed on the menu.
- A double decker would contain Bread > Filling 1 > Bread > Filling 2 > Bread.
- A triple decker would have Bread > Filling 1 > Bread > Filling 2 > Bread > Filling 3 > Bread.
It was pretty tasty. The fries were very cold.
The Mister ordered a side Caesar’s salad. The waiter asked if the Mister would like that before the meal or with the meal. Before, please. The Mister also ordered the Cajun Chicken Sandwich — a marinated boneless chicken breast coated in Cajun spices and skillet-seared, topped with an orange chili butter, melted pepperjack cheese, roasted green chili, and crispy red chili onion on a toasted Kaiser roll. He asked them to omit the orange chili butter.
I’m not sure why the quality of Golden Valley has been up and down for us. The last time we ate there I was happy to see the quality was back since the time before wasn’t up to par. Today though the quality was down by a lot and I don’t know why as it wasn’t very busy in the restaurant at all. The waiter was not the usual cheerful and energetic sort that we normally see there.
As we sat and sipped our beer it didn’t appear as if the side Caesar salad was going to appear before the meal. It turns out that the salad wasn’t going to appear at all. The sandwiches came but no salad. When The Mister asked about the salad the waiter acted as if it were the first time he was hearing of a salad request. The Mister cancelled the salad order….if there ever was one.
I didn’t get a photo of the Cajun Chicken sandwich….or maybe I did and it’s with the salad.
The Cajun Chicken sandwich was pretty tasty but the fries were also cold.
Oh, and I didn’t touch the pickle on the plate at all but I normally do. Looking at the photo now, it appears a bit mangled.
If this had been our first visit ever to the restaurant, we wouldn’t be returning. But since we’ve been there before and have had some wonderful meals, we will give them another turn. Come on GV, be consistent in quality.
