Thanks to a gift certificate from a very good friend of mine, hubby and I enjoyed dinner at Benihana tonight.  We really enjoy that place.

The soup to start is one of my favorites and reminds me of the soup my mom would often make for our family when I was growing up.

We always choose to have the Hibachi Chicken Rice with our meal.  It’s so simple to make but difficult to replicate the exact flavor at home.

Almost there….

Yes!  It’s ready!

I love the onion volcano they make.

Dinner in the making.

That really thick piece of beef is my Hibachi Chateaubriand.  My absolute favorite and ohhhhh so tender.

I don’t think the chef had a lot of experience, overall he wasn’t as smooth as other chefs we’ve enjoyed at Benihana but he was still likable.  For some reason he put the Chateaubriand on towards the end of the cooking process — well after all of the salmon, scallops, shrimp and lobster that was being prepared — even the white onions went on before but those also stayed on past everything.  Odd.  As a result I received my meal long after hubby had finished eating.

Hubby enjoyed his favorite, Ocean Treasures, which contains cold water lobster tail, sea scallops and colossal shrimp.

Here’s my Hibachi Chateaubriand which is 8.5 ounces of center cut tenderloin and mushrooms lightly seasoned and grilled with garlic butter. YUM.  I like it cooked medium rare but not moo’ing.

We ate like royalty and brought home quite a bit of leftovers so we’ll continue to eat like royalty tomorrow.  Thank you SO much, Gail!
