The Search Continues

Yesterday I continued my search for good Chinese food in my new town. I really got spoiled both in growing up in Hawaii and later living in Portland where there are a huge number of excellent restaurants.

I went to a little place called China Restaurant for lunch. I was the only customer which is just a little unnerving.  The food choices were limited to a lunch special menu. I probably would’ve opted to come at dinner if I had realized that. I ordered the beef lo mein. Lunch specials come with soup (I had hot & sour), fried or white rice (I had fried) and an egg roll. The food was unremarkable but tasty enough and served piping hot, which I really like. I ordered hot tea & it was included in the price of the lunch. The price? $5. Cannot beat that.

The service was outstanding — the waiter was friendly & not overly hovering but checked back frequently to see if I needed anything. He earned a 46% tip for that.

ALOHA! Yeah, I’ve had the same problem, trying to find good Chinese food here in the middle of the desert. Hawaii’s food is the best! I hope that you will visit my site mykitcheninthemiddleofthedesert.wordpress.com, I talk about local foods and how I have found ways to recreate it. Mahalo, Auntie
